Possession of 30 grams or less of cannabis
is a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $5,000. For first offenders, the court may consider a conditional discharge. Cannabis
possession of more than 30 grams, the penalties range from six months - three years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
Currently State Sen. Brent Steele has been proposing a change to Indiana's laws regarding cannabis possession. The change in law would see an infraction for possession of ten grams or less. That means violators would get a fine instead of potential jail time. It would be planned to introduce the proposal in 2013.
